Reflection, Intention, & Action

Slow Down to Move Forward

We made it to the end of another year.

When things are coming to an end at this time of year, and at the same time new possibilities sit on the horizon, it can fuel the desire to make changes. And for many of us, health and fitness goals top the list of our New Year's resolutions.

Before rushing into action and making a variety of changes, slow down and take the time to reflect on this past year’s wins, struggles, and any new insights you gained along the way.

Instead of waiting to start your healthy habits in the new year, there is no better time than now to create actions that take care of yourself than now. Start small and build from there.

For most of us, the holiday season can feel like a whirlwind filled with events, family, friends, and gatherings, and all seem to hold endless temptations for unhealthy behaviors.

While it can be a joyful or a relaxing time, it’s also easy to let your personal health and fitness goals slip to the bottom of your priorities. You may feel holiday pressure to abandon your own healthy habits, especially around family. This is where you have to communicate your health goals and take care of yourself.

This holiday season, try giving yourself the gift of intentional self-care by carving out time for movement, nutrition, and rest.

One way to take control of your health during the holidays is to start by scheduling physical activity, just the same way as you would for any holiday (or even work) commitment. This is an easy habit to keep going through the new year. You wouldn’t no-show on an important event, so don’t ghost yourself.

Whether it’s a morning workout, a midday or after dinner walk, or taking 10 minutes to do your physical therapy exercises, make yourself the priority with this time carved out just for you.

Even 15–20 minutes of movement can lift your mood, reduce stress, and help you stay grounded during the busiest weeks of the year. Remember, it can be as simple as a walk by yourself or with family and friends. This doesn’t have to be yet another thing to cross off your endless to do list.

If you’re heading out to a party or event, give yourself permission to enjoy some delicious treats, along with a few fresh veggies on the side for good measure. And if you do end up going off track, don’t beat yourself up and give up completely. Breathe, refocus, and get back on track as best as you can.

Most importantly, give yourself grace. The holidays aren’t about perfection; they’re about presence.

By intentionally creating space and being present for your own well-being, you’ll have more energy, patience, and joy to bring to the celebrations around you.

Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Much love and gratitude to you all. Thank you for trusting us, your Power-Up team, with your health this past year!
